# Ronald Radosh (b. 1937) Back to [[Murray Rothbard]] · [[Other Major Works#A New History of Leviathan (1972)]] **Role for Rothbard:** co-editor with Rothbard of ***A New History of Leviathan: Essays on the Rise of the American Corporate State*** (New York: E. P. Dutton, 1972). It was the main published product of Rothbard's alliance with New Left revisionist historians ([Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Radosh)). ## Life and career - Born in 1937 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan to Jewish immigrant parents. A self-described "red diaper baby" and member of the Communist Party USA until the Khrushchev revelations. - Studied at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Doctoral work under **William Appleman Williams**, a founder of the "Wisconsin School" of New Left diplomatic history. - New Left activist against the Vietnam War, and SDS member. *Prophets on the Right* (completed 1974) profiled conservative "critics of American globalism." Rothbard's Old Right non-interventionism was a natural point of contact. - **The Rosenberg File (1983):** after studying FBI files, he concluded that Julius Rosenberg was guilty of espionage. The backlash from the left pushed him toward neoconservatism. His memoir is *Commies* (2001). - Later at the Hudson Institute; professor emeritus of history at CUNY. - So both co-editors of *Leviathan* ended up far from 1972: Radosh on the neoconservative right, Rothbard on the paleolibertarian right. - (Source: [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Radosh)) ## Sources - Wikipedia, "Ronald Radosh": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Radosh - Full text of *A New History of Leviathan* (Mises Institute): https://mises-media.s3.amazonaws.com/A%20New%20History%20of%20Leviathan_2.pdf
