These trends sit behind the post and its replies. Items marked ◻ are standard knowledge and were not opened this session. ⚠️ means a detail I could not confirm.
## Argentina under Milei (Dec 2023– )
- Javier Milei, a self-described anarcho-capitalist who cites Rothbard, took office in December 2023 promising "chainsaw" cuts ◻. See [[Topics/Murray Rothbard/Theories and Influence|Rothbard: Theories and Influence]] and [[People/Javier Milei]].
- Decree DNU 70/2023 repealed the rental law, and a study finds rental supply revived and rents fell ([IZA DP 18107](https://docs.iza.org/dp18107.pdf), cited in the [[Topics/Murray Rothbard/Post Analysis - Handre on Power and Market (2026-10-23)|Power and Market analysis]]).
- @Handre posted on Milei on Oct 20, 2026, and on *Precios Cuidados* on Sep 30, 2026. His "Argentina" paragraph is in effect the back-story to Milei.
## Corporate tax competition and the global minimum
- The OECD/G20 Inclusive Framework agreed a 15% global minimum tax (Pillar Two) in October 2021. Ireland signed and applies 15% to large groups (revenue of €750m or more) from 2024 ◻.
- In September 2024 the EU Court of Justice upheld the Commission's €13bn state-aid ruling against Apple in Ireland ◻.
- The direction of travel is against the "race to the bottom" the post defends, though countries now compete on credits and subsidies instead ◻.
## Tariffs (raised in the replies)
- [@CarlosDelicto](https://x.com/CarlosDelicto/status/2113635276115550473) set the post's praise of New Zealand's tariff cuts against Donald Trump's tariffs: are they a trade-war tactic or a way to fund the government? Broad US tariffs were imposed in 2025 ◻⚠️ (details not checked this session). The free-trade logic in the post points against them.
## Hong Kong after 1997
- After the 2020 National Security Law, Heritage stopped ranking Hong Kong separately (from 2021) ◻⚠️. Fraser's EFW has continued to place it at or near the top ◻⚠️. The Cowperthwaite model's legacy is now debated more over rule of law than over tax.
## Top-earner tax flight
- Since France's levy, several countries have debated or adopted wealth and exit taxes, and others compete with schemes for incoming high earners, such as Italy's flat tax for new residents and the UK's ending of non-dom status from April 2025 ◻⚠️. Research on migration elasticities is summarised in [[Research and Evidence]].
## Industrial policy revival
- The US CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act (2022) and EU responses revived state-led industrial policy in rich countries ◻. This is the counter-trend to the post's thesis, and the reason the "what about South Korea?" reply matters.
