**Role:** Secretary-General of the United Nations since Jan 2017; Prime Minister of Portugal 1995–2002 and UN High Commissioner for Refugees 2005–2015 ⚠️ (dates from memory).
- On **Aug 9, 2021** he called the IPCC AR6 Working Group I report "a code red for humanity" ([UN News](https://news.un.org/en/story/2021/08/1097362)).
- On **Jul 27, 2023** he said: "The era of global warming has ended; the era of global boiling has arrived" ([UN press](https://press.un.org/en/2023/sgsm21893.doc.htm)).
- He has repeatedly called for a phase-out of fossil fuels, which goes further than the COP28 text ("transitioning away") ⚠️.
- @PeterDClack quotes both phrases as proof that "UN leadership" is the "chief amplifier" of alarm ([[Users/@PeterDClack/Post Analyses/Post Analysis - PeterDClack on the UN Climate Machinery (2026-10-25)|analysis]]). The quotes are real. They are the Secretary-General's rhetoric, not IPCC findings.
