# Hugh Ross
- **Who:** Canadian-born astrophysicist (PhD, University of Toronto). He founded the apologetics ministry **Reasons to Believe** in 1986. He is a leading **old-Earth (progressive) creationist**: he accepts a 13.8-billion-year universe and a 4.5-billion-year Earth, but rejects common descent ([Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Ross_(astrophysicist)); [Reasons to Believe](https://reasons.org/)) ⚠️ (biographical details from general knowledge, not re-checked this run).
- **X:** [@RTB_HRoss](https://x.com/RTB_HRoss), with 25,975 followers (Oct 29, 2026).
- **Relevant post (Oct 28, 2026, 9:36 AM CT):** "humans today have access to ~100 quadrillion tons of biodeposits. Some examples include coal, oil, natural gas, clathrates, kerogen, limestone, marble, & gypsum…" ([post](https://x.com/RTB_HRoss/status/2115452696996241461)).
- He presents these as resources God provided by filling the planet with life for as long as possible.
- Dinosaurs, he says, are "only a small, but important, fraction".
- **Why he matters here.** He shows that a religious argument can sit alongside the **biogenic** view of oil. Yet a reply to him (@iamjohnfremont) pushed the abiogenic line. See [[Post Analysis - iamjohnfremont on Deep Wells and Abiogenic Oil (2026-10-28)]].
