# Save / export a SillyTavern chat 2026-09-26. This is **not** under Character Management. It is under **chat options** for the conversation that is open. ## Menu path 1. Open the Jefferson chat you want to save. 2. Bottom **left of the input bar**, click the **hamburger / Options** button (three lines). Not the top character bar. 3. Click **Manage chat files**. 4. Each row in the list: - **Export** → `.jsonl` (can be imported again on another ST) - pencil = rename 5. Same Options menu: **Download chat as plain text document** → `.txt` you can read; it **cannot** be imported back. If Options is missing: look at the **left of the send box**. Some themes hide it until hover.
