# Obsidian - Import the Pathfinder 2e Remaster Content ![[images/Obsidian-Import-the-Pathfinder-2e-Remaster-Content.webp]] [Watch on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdy7fgbN8PI) · 36:13 · Josh Plunkett · 2024-04-06 ## Outline ### 00:00 Intro - Josh is gearing up to run Pathfinder 2e and wants every monster, spell, action and feat in his vault. With those notes in place, auto-linking means he never has to grab a book at the table, which matters for a crunchy system like PF2e. ### 01:11 Why Foundry? - Some community data sets used in his older videos aren't being updated for the Remaster, so they're no longer reliable. - **Foundry VTT**'s PF2e system carries Paizo's community content, which covers almost all the mechanics, monsters, spells and items. You can use it however you like as long as you don't charge for it. - Foundry also offers a legal way to bring in content you own that the community policy doesn't cover, especially **adventures**, which aren't available on Archives of Nethys. - Foundry costs $50 as a one-off purchase, not a subscription. ### 03:59 Configure Foundry - **Game Systems**: install Pathfinder Second Edition. Josh notes the same approach should work for other systems, and he even spotted a German D&D 5e. - **Add-on Modules**: install the prerequisites **libWrapper** and **More Handlebars Helpers** (built by a Foundry community member at the Obsidian community's request). - The **pf2e-md-exporter** module is MostTornBrain's PF2e-specific update of Farling's original Markdown exporter. Install it by pasting its `module.json` manifest URL into Install Module. - Read the README first: it's updated before his videos are, and Farling's Markdown exporter conflicts with this one, so only run one per world. - **Game Worlds**: create a world using the Pathfinder 2e system, launch it, log in as Gamemaster and wait through the long asset load. - Under **Manage Modules**, enable only libWrapper, More Handlebars Helpers and the PF2e exporter. - Exporter settings: the raw data format (JSON or YAML) doesn't matter. Turn on scene formatting for the **Leaflet** plugin if you want maps with pins, and turn off the UUID options. ![[images/Obsidian-Import-the-Pathfinder-2e-Remaster-Content-t0320.webp]] ### 11:35 Add Pathfinder Tokens Bestiaries - **Export custom images** includes monster art, but only if you've bought Paizo's **Pathfinder Tokens: Bestiaries** Foundry pack (about $60 on paizo.com) and enabled it in Foundry. Out of the box, Foundry has no monster pictures. ![[images/Obsidian-Import-the-Pathfinder-2e-Remaster-Content-t1150.webp]] ### 13:28 Initiative Tracker Support - **Include Initiative Tracker markdown** adds an encounter block (for example "Adult Black Dragon: 1") at the bottom of each monster so it can be sent to Initiative Tracker. - Josh finds this redundant because he's added combat buttons to his statblock layout instead, so he leaves it off. He'd like Javalent to add those buttons to the Pathfinder layouts by default. - Leave the **Handlebars templates** alone unless you're technical, then save changes. ### 15:34 Export Foundry Content - In the **Compendium Packs** tab, right-click a pack, such as **Monster Core**, and choose **Export to Markdown**. It saves a zip (for example `Actor-Monster Core.zip`) that you unzip and drag into the vault. Josh uses `2-Mechanics/Bestiary`. - With token images enabled, exports like Bestiary 1 include an **assets** folder that goes inside the bestiary folder too. - He recommends Bestiaries 1 to 3, Monster Core, the NPC Gallery, hazards and vehicles, plus most of **Character Building** (spells, feats, classes, actions, heritages, deities, equipment, ancestries, class features) and Effects (conditions) and the GM Tools rollable tables. Skip the macros. - Notes cross-link heavily, so a broken link usually means a missing pack. ![[images/Obsidian-Import-the-Pathfinder-2e-Remaster-Content-t1800.webp]] - Then choose **Reload app without saving** in Obsidian and let it index the new files (866 new notes for him). ### 21:32 Install ITS Theme and Plugins - **Fantasy Statblocks** (Jeremy Valentine): turn on *Try to render wikilinks* and *Automatically parse frontmatter for creatures*, and disable the 5e SRD. - Set **bestiary folders** to just the folders holding monsters (his bestiary, adventures and hazards) instead of the default whole-vault `/`, so parsing is faster. Set the layout to **Basic Pathfinder 2e**. - He copied the sword and plus-circle combat button code from the 5e layout into a new group in the PF2e layout using the layout editor. ![[images/Obsidian-Import-the-Pathfinder-2e-Remaster-Content-t2400.webp]] - **Pathfinder 2e Action Icons** renders action glyphs from short code in notes. He also spotted a brand-new PF2e statblocks plugin in the store. - The **ITS Theme** is recommended but not required, along with **Style Settings**. In the ITS settings under TTRPG, pick the Pathfinder Remaster color scheme (only one tick at a time), and turn on *Disable ITS styled statblocks* so it doesn't clash with Fantasy Statblocks. - Download the raw **PF2e spells CSS snippet** from the exporter repo, drop it in the snippets folder (Appearance > CSS snippets > Open folder) and enable it so spells look right. ### 30:59 Review the Notes - The result is a fully linked compendium: classes, abilities, monsters with art and combat buttons, and complex hazards such as **Quicksand** that can also go into Initiative Tracker. - In a new encounter note ("The party are chased by a band of orc scrappers... they fall in some quicksand"), the **Various Complements** plugin auto-suggests links as he types. A pipe alias handles plurals. - Too much content can clutter suggestions, since "orc" matches the ancestry, the language and monsters. Consider importing only what you need. He skipped classes and ancestries for that reason. ![[images/Obsidian-Import-the-Pathfinder-2e-Remaster-Content-t3200.webp]] ### 35:14 Outro - This is his recommended method, documented under Pathfinder 2e Remaster on the Community Supported Games page. Cheaper non-Foundry routes give only the community content, and a future video will cover importing an adventure and Monster Core art. - Thanks to new patrons, and an invitation to the Obsidian TTRPG Community Discord. ## Things Mentioned ### Obsidian plugins, themes and tools - **Fantasy Statblocks** (Jeremy Valentine / Javalent), free, for rendering statblocks, with layout editor tweaks - **Initiative Tracker** (Javalent), free, for encounters and hazards in combat - **Pathfinder 2e Action Icons**, free, for rendering action glyphs, plus a newly spotted PF2e statblocks plugin - **ITS Theme** (SlRvb), free, with its Pathfinder Remaster color scheme, and **Style Settings**, free - **Various Complements**, free auto-linking suggestions - **Obsidian Leaflet**, free, for maps from exported scenes - PF2e spells CSS snippet from the exporter repo - Foundry modules: [pf2e-md-exporter](https://github.com/MostTornBrain/pf2e-md-exporter) by MostTornBrain, **libWrapper**, **More Handlebars Helpers** and Farling's original Markdown exporter (which conflicts with it), all free ### TTRPG systems and products - **Pathfinder Second Edition Remaster** (Paizo): Monster Core, Player Core, Bestiaries 1 to 3, NPC Gallery and Kingmaker features, under Paizo's community use policy - [Pathfinder Tokens: Bestiaries](https://paizo.com/products/btq02eat?Pathfinder-Tokens-Bestiaries), a paid Foundry token pack (about $60) - [Foundry Virtual Tabletop](https://foundryvtt.com/), paid $50 one-off license, with the free PF2e game system - Archives of Nethys (free PF2e rules site) and D&D 5e's SRD for comparison ### Websites and community - [Community Supported Games](https://obsidianttrpgtutorials.com/Obsidian+TTRPG+Tutorials/Community+Supported+Games/Community+Supported+Games) on Obsidian TTRPG Tutorials - [Obsidian TTRPG Tutorials](https://obsidianttrpgtutorials.com/) and its community Discord - [Paizo](https://paizo.com/pathfinder), publisher of Pathfinder ## Bios ### Josh Plunkett Australian creator of Obsidian TTRPG Tutorials and its YouTube channel, teaching GMs to run tabletop campaigns in Obsidian through plugin walkthroughs and vault workflows.
