## Outline
### 00:00 Introduction to folder notes
- Josh has seen a lot of Discord feedback that people's folder notes have stopped working.
- Historically most people used **AidenLx's Folder Note** plugin together with the **Folder Note core** plugin. It hasn't been updated in about a year, and Obsidian keeps changing, so it is breaking.
- His advice is to uninstall both. A fix exists on GitHub if you really want to stay with AidenLx's version, but switching is just as easy.

### 01:03 Installing the new plugin
- Search Community Plugins for **Folder Notes by LostPaul**. It had been updated 10 days before recording and was already getting download numbers similar to the old plugin.
- Install, enable, and read the documentation and options.
- Josh hasn't spent much time in the settings. The one that matters to him is the key/click combination for creating a folder note, because he prefers making folder notes manually.
- **01:40** There's an option to automatically create a folder note whenever you create a folder, if you want every folder to have one.

### 01:57 What are folder notes?
- A normal folder can hold notes, but you can't write in the folder itself.
- With the plugin, Ctrl+click the folder and it becomes a note you can write in.
- **02:30** In the system file explorer, the plugin simply creates a note with the same name as the folder, inside that folder, and shows the folder as a link to it. The note really lives inside the folder.

### 03:08 Practical use cases
- His party folder (Deadly Depths) has an overview folder note with notes for each player character inside.
- He uses folder notes as the high-level summary of whatever the folder represents: a continent or region, then city folders whose folder note describes the city, then sub-region folder notes, then key buildings.
- This adds structure and depth so the folder layout means something for your data.

- **04:05** Migrating was just uninstall and reinstall for him with no issues. If you used a custom naming convention in AidenLx's plugin, you may have to do extra work. Keeping the default (note named the same as the folder) means the two plugins are compatible.
- **04:40** Folder Notes by LostPaul is now his recommended plugin and on his core list; every vault he builds has it, and it's one of the first plugins he installs.
- **05:10** Short and simple wrap-up, with Easter wishes for live viewers.
## Things mentioned
### Obsidian plugins
- **Folder Notes** by LostPaul: free community plugin, the recommended replacement. Supports manual creation via a key plus click, or automatic creation for new folders.
- **Folder Note** by AidenLx: free community plugin, unmaintained for about a year and now breaking. A GitHub fix exists.
- **Folder Note core** plugin: used alongside AidenLx's plugin; Josh recommends removing it too.
