**Creator:** Ben Claremont · **Published:** 2026-10-16 · **Length:** 11:16 · [Watch on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU)
> Caption source: YouTube **manual English** captions (`en`), downloaded with **yt-dlp** on the **first attempt**. The track covers the whole video (0:00–11:16) with no gaps, so no auto-captions, retries or TubeAlfred were needed (0 credits). YouTube chapters are used as section headings and line up with the captions. Screenshots come from the 720p50 stream (format 298). On-screen details (menu names, export settings, file sizes) were read from the frames. Feature names were cross-checked against Insta360's official online manual, [Insta360 App: LUT](https://onlinemanual.insta360.com/app/en-us/operation-tutorial/edit-function/lut). It confirms the one-tap LUT for I-Log footage on the **X6, Luna Ultra, X5, Ace Pro 2 and GO Ultra**. It also says the app "does not yet support batch export of video files with LUT applied". The manual's path is "Edit > LUT", while in the video Ben taps the settings icon at the top of the clip. The video names no firmware or app version numbers. Third-party trackers list X6 firmware **v1.2.36** (10 Oct 2026, needs the Insta360 app v2.34.5 or later) and X5 firmware **v1.13.21** (15 Sep 2026) as the latest builds; this is context only and not confirmed as the update shown. Host: **Ben Claremont**. Paid promotion: **sponsored by Insta360** (said at 2:57). The X5 and X6 links in the description are **Insta360 affiliate links**. The description also promotes Ben's **DaVinci Resolve Simplified** beginner course. All shots in the video were filmed on the X5 and X6 (most on the X6, per the description).
## Outline
### 0:00 The problem & the solution
- [0:00](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=0s) "If you own an **Insta360 X5 or X6**, this new update changes everything." Ben shows a shot before the update and after it: "pretty massive difference."
- [0:14](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=14s) The **X6** came out a few months ago, but one of its best and most marketed features **wasn't fully ready** at launch, "and no one really noticed." It can turn regular action shots into cinematic ones, with better exposure, dynamic range and rich, accurate colour that goes beyond what either camera could already do.
- [0:43](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=43s) The feature is **10-bit combined with log**. **10-bit** means the X6 captures far more colour information than the **8-bit** video of the standard colour profile: "over a **billion** possible colours compared to around **16 million**." 10-bit was one of the X6's biggest new additions.
- [1:07](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=67s) **Log** is a much flatter colour profile that keeps more information in the highlights, shadows and colours. Together they unlock the **best image quality** each camera can produce.
- [1:24](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=84s) The problem: **log footage looks terrible if you don't colour grade it**. In his **X6 review** Ben loved the idea, but grading log shots by hand in **DaVinci Resolve** was "really difficult", even for an experienced editor. He could not get natural colour and exposure consistently.
- [1:51](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=111s) What was missing at launch was a **simple one-click way** to turn 10-bit log footage into the finished image it was designed to become. "That's finally changed": Insta360 has added **simple one-click LUTs** to the **desktop and mobile apps**. You shoot in log, press "essentially one button" while editing, and get a far better shot without needing to understand colour grading.
- [2:20](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=140s) It also helps **X5 owners**. The X5 doesn't shoot 10-bit, but it does have a **log profile**, and in Ben's tests log with the new LUT noticeably improves X5 footage over the standard profile (on screen: "X5 standard colour profile" vs "X5 I-LOG colour profile").
- [2:40](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=160s) He will cover which settings to turn on, when to use log and the "ridiculously simple" new workflow. **Sponsor:** "Big thanks to **Insta360** for sponsoring this video." All shots were filmed on the X5 and X6, which are linked below.

### 3:05 Update these 3 things
- [3:05](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=185s) Update three things. First, the **mobile app**, from the **App Store** or **Google Play**.
- [3:15](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=195s) Second, the **desktop software** (Insta360 Studio). Open it and follow the prompts; it usually tells you when an update is ready.
- [3:25](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=205s) Third, the **camera firmware**. Connect the camera wirelessly to the app and it should prompt you to download the latest firmware. Hit download.

![[images/This-Update-To-Insta360-X5-X6-Changes-Everything-t0212.webp]]
### 3:38 X5 camera setup
- [3:36](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=216s) On the **X5** the only limit on log is **resolution**: you **can't shoot I-Log at 8K30**. Change the resolution to **5.7K60** (on screen: "Active HDR: Not supported", "AdaptiveTone: Off" and the 5.7K+, 5.7K and 4K options).
- [3:48](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=228s) Swipe in from the right to open the **exposure settings**, where there is now an **I-Log** option. Turn it on and the camera shoots in **I-Log**, "that really flat colour profile".

![[images/This-Update-To-Insta360-X5-X6-Changes-Everything-t0242.webp]]
### 4:07 X6 camera setup
- [4:07](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=247s) On the **X6** there are **no resolution or frame-rate limits**: "you can absolutely shoot in **8K 50**."
- [4:13](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=253s) Swipe in from the right, then under **Basic → Colour mode** switch from **Standard colour** to **I-Log 10-bit**.
- [4:24](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=264s) Below that is **Colour Restoration** (off/on). Turned on, it gives an **in-camera preview** of the finished look instead of the flat image. It is "more just for preview purposes", and you still add the LUT later (on screen: an "I-Log" badge and 8K • 50).

### 4:53 Mobile workflow
- [4:51](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=291s) Film in the log profile, then connect the camera back up to the app. "Here's where the magic happens."
- [4:56](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=296s) In the app's **Album** tab, tap a clip shot in the flat profile, tap the **settings icon** at the top and turn **LUT** on. "Voila": a fully graded shot with the **default Insta360 LUT** applied.
- [5:16](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=316s) From there, **reframe** and **export to the camera roll** as usual.

### 5:23 Desktop workflow in Insta360 Studio
- [5:23](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=323s) The desktop workflow is "just as easy". Import the files into **Insta360 Studio**. In the **media pool** on the left, log shots are easy to spot because they are the **desaturated** ones.
- [5:41](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=341s) Click one to open it in the viewer, then on the right go to **Imaging** and toggle **LUT** on. The grade is applied instantly.
- [5:53](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=353s) Leave it as it is, or toggle **Adjust** for further colour correction. Ben loves the log files for **recovering shadows and highlights**. Raising saturation (he often uses the **vibrance** slider) works "in a really smart way" on these files. On **8-bit** shots the same move makes colours "look like a **Disney movie** and not like reality".
- [6:23](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=383s) He suggests just a little correction, since the LUT has done most of the work. The before-and-after shows a clear improvement on the LUT alone, and it took "about **15 seconds**". Then reframe and export.

### 6:46 Batch editing shots
- [6:46](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=406s) **Bonus tip:** right-click a clip you've just graded and choose **Copy attributes**. Then right-click another flat **I-Log** clip you want graded the same way and choose **Paste attributes**.
- [7:05](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=425s) You could paste many other settings too, but Ben recommends **unselecting everything except Imaging**, which carries the **LUT on** setting and your adjustments. Click **Apply in batches** and Studio grades the clip exactly like the first one.
- [7:25](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=445s) It works on **multiple clips**: **Cmd/Ctrl-click** several I-Log shots, repeat the paste with just Imaging, and **apply in batches** to grade the whole set.

### 7:46 Export settings
- [7:46](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=466s) Exporting works as usual. Under the clip export settings, Studio should **automatically detect** the resolution, frame rate, **recommended bitrate** and **colour space**. 10-bit footage is recognised as **10-bit**, and you can change it if it isn't. On screen: 4K (3840 × 2160), Match Source Frame Rate (50.00), Recommended bitrate (60), H.265, **Rec.709 10bit**.
- [8:08](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=488s) **Format:** "some people will tell you" to export in **ProRes 422**, but that makes files "disproportionately large", about **a gigabyte for 7 seconds**. **H.265** is "a tenth of that" and looks "more or less identical". On screen, the same 7-second clip is **913.33 MB** as ProRes 422 vs **55.17 MB** as H.265.
- [8:26](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=506s) Change any setting to match your editor's project, then hit **Export**.

### 8:36 Final adjustments
- [8:36](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=516s) You can do a **follow-up colour correction** in your editor. Ben shows this very video in **DaVinci Resolve**, "the best free video editor on the market" and "the world's best colour correction software".
- [8:52](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=532s) A **second round of small tweaks** to shadows, highlights and colour takes a shot "from a nine out of 10 to a 10 out of 10", at least within what the camera can do.
- [9:05](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=545s) He strongly recommends Resolve because there are **no ongoing subscription fees** and it is **completely free**. He points to his **DaVinci tutorial** (the video before this one) to learn it "in 14 minutes".
![[images/This-Update-To-Insta360-X5-X6-Changes-Everything-t0528.webp]]
### 9:22 When should you use LOG?
- [9:22](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=562s) Use log whenever **getting the maximum quality** out of the camera matters, "even if it's a basic social media post".
- [9:34](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=574s) Skip it only when you want **no editing or colour correction at all** and just shoot and export. With the one-click workflow, though, "it's kind of tempting to just use it and press that one button".
- [9:52](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=592s) On his recent **trip to Canada** he shot some of the most stunning landscapes of his life. All of his X6 footage there was in the **standard profile** and **not even 10-bit**, which shows you don't always need the highest quality to make good content. He would have used log if the workflow had been ready. At the time it was so complicated that he feared the shots "could be totally ruined".
- [10:22](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=622s) Now, thanks to the **new LUT options**, **10-bit and log** are usable even by **beginners** with no specialist knowledge.
- [10:32](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=632s) From now on Ben will shoot **every X6 shot in log**, to test whether that is practical across the board. He will report any bottlenecks or problems in future videos.
- [10:51](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thfMqFYuoiU&t=651s) Outro: whatever Insta360 camera you own, you need to learn to **reframe 360 footage**. He points to his start-to-finish video on the **latest Insta360 Studio**, which turns raw 360 shots into a reframed flat **16×9** video.
