Order drawn by lottery in the room. 25 points — the largest single grade in the course. **Block B — Interview strategy (60 min).** The three formats and the three different preparations they require. Portfolio walkthrough craft. The question that decides junior hires. What to ask them. Compensation conversations. Red flags. **Block C — Career navigation (75 min).** The exit briefing: staff vs. contract vs. freelance and what each does to you; the T-shape; why the portfolio never finishes; layoff and volatility literacy; continuing education, evaluated honestly; and the alumni relationship. --- ## Bring - Site live, showcase piece playing - **An offline copy of everything.** Room wifi fails at exactly the wrong moment. Every time. - Something to write on for Blocks B and C — these are the parts you'll want in March --- ## The one line from Block B **"Tell me about a time you got difficult feedback."** Juniors are not screened out for talent. They're screened out for how they take notes. Have an answer ready and true, in four parts: the note, that you didn't defend, what you specifically changed, and what the result was. ## The one line from Block C **If your newest public piece is more than six months old, you read as stalled** — whether or not you are. Junior artists who visibly improve out-hire juniors with better but static work, because a lead is buying your trajectory, not your current frame. One new or substantially reworked piece per quarter. Put it on a calendar today, not in your head. --- ## After today **Week 16 (Dec 11) has no class meeting** — it's Collin College Fall Commencement. The **December Guest Speaker Portfolio Review** is likely at Wylie; watch Announcements. You've been ready for it since Nov 20. And the door doesn't close in December. Send me a portfolio for a read after you graduate — I mean that literally, and most students assume otherwise. I'd also like to know where you land.
