# Community Involvement — Extra Credit — up to 5 points **Any time before Friday, December 4 · Submit: one paragraph + evidence** --- ## What earns it Documented participation in the local industry community **beyond** the one fall Guest Speaker session already required by the Networking Log. The intended path — and the highest-value one: ### Presenting at the December Guest Speaker Portfolio Review Date TBD, likely at **Wylie campus**. Portfolio Development students get priority presentation slots. Watch Canvas Announcements; I'll post it as soon as the department fixes the date, with as much notice as I can get. Frisco to Wylie is a real weeknight drive — there'll be a carpool thread, use it. **What this is:** a read of your work by someone with taste. **What this is not:** a job interview. Treating it as an interview makes people defensive at exactly the moment they should be listening. Go to collect notes, not approval. Ticketed via Humanitix — **buy early and register with your `.edu` email.** Ask me about student discount codes. - **Industry Insights** — ABOSG's free monthly Saturday talks, 11a–1p - A game jam — Global Game Jam, Ludum Dare, a local jam - A local screening, festival, or portfolio review event - DSVC or AIGA DFW events, if you're motion/design-adjacent - Volunteering at any of the above — which, honestly, is worth more to you than attending See the **DFW Industry Map** in the Reference module for the full list with links. --- ## What to submit 1. **One paragraph.** Where you went, who you talked to, one specific thing you learned, and one thing you're changing because of it. Not a summary of the talk — I can watch a talk. What did it change? 2. **Evidence.** A photo, a ticket, a badge, a screenshot of the RSVP, a jam submission page. Required, it would penalize the students with the least slack in their lives. One fall session at Frisco or Wylie is required because it's close and there are three chances. Everything past that is credit for doing more than the floor.
