# Attendance & Appointment Engagement — 10 points **Running all semester · 10 points · Graded at midterm (5) and end of term (5)** --- ## What this is Most of this course happens in a 12–15 minute conference between you and me. Ten points ride on those conferences being worth having. Showing up is the floor, not the standard. ## The standard You arrive at your group's hour with three things: 1. **Work open and running.** The current build of whatever is due next — file open, scene loaded, site live in a browser tab. Not a description of it. Not "it's on my other machine." 2. **One specific question.** "Does this read as a junior environment artist piece?" is a question. "What do you think?" is not. 3. **Your Portfolio Tracker**, showing what actually moved since we last talked. ## Your group Groups are **fixed for the semester** — sign up in Canvas during Week 1 and that's your hour every appointment week. You don't need permission, just notice. ## The lab is yours the whole block Your appointment is your guaranteed slot, not your dismissal time. The lab is open the entire scheduled period with licensed software and hardware you very likely do not have at home. Students who treat the full block as studio time finish this course with better portfolios than students who show up for fifteen minutes. That is not a threat; it's just what happens every semester. ## How it's scored | Standard | Points | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------ | | Present, prepared, and working — the standard above, consistently | 9–10 | | Present and mostly prepared; occasional empty conference | 7–8 | | Present but frequently unprepared, or repeatedly absent from your slot | 4–6 | | Rarely present, or present without work more often than with it | 0–3 | ## If you show up with nothing You get a five-minute triage conversation and a written recovery plan instead of a conference. That's a better use of the slot than watching you apologize. It's also on the record, which is the point — this course has one long deadline and it's very easy to lose October. ## If something goes wrong Tell me early. Illness, job changes, family, hardware failure, a piece that collapsed — all of it is workable in September and most of it is not workable in December. Message me in Canvas. I would much rather rebuild your plan in week 6 than write you an F in week 15.
